THE BUSINESS ETHICS BLOG
Toyota-A Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer
whose headquarter is in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. It is the second largest
automobile manufacturer in the world. As a Student we should realise the truth
of Toyota car company and unethical practices that it did to its customers.
Moreover, Being a very successful company doesn't mean that everyone should
trust it blindly for purchase. Even a trustworthy company like Toyota do
several unethical practices. As far as cars are concerned, Safety is the most
important aspect when dealing with cars or any purchase you make.
In 2009, The very reputed Toyota motor company had a lot of
errors to their safety parts in the automobiles being sold.
Safety on a car is the most important feature. It is also
what makes them trust the company. It is what attracts he consumer who is
purchasing a car. They made a huge mistake by betraying their promise as a
company by ignoring safety concerns and delaying recall investigation. Toyota
thought they would save money by doing this, and this is what they did to
ignore the safety policies.
To this day, lots of businesses can have many unethical
beliefs or situations that the think will not affect the business and the
consumers and the products the consumers purchase. Businesses can make these
decisions just to save money, and to avoid any kind of laws that hey have to
sign for.
-Phasing the side airbag saved $124 million.
-Delaying a rule for tougher door locks saved them $11
million.
-Faulty breaks and sticky pedals in the car
Consumers started noticing the features and as they
confronted Toyota for these practices, Toyota didn't give an explanation for
the handling of the situation. They didn't think it was a big deal and they
didn't think they would ever get caught. Toyota said they were doing a better
job, and they were only sorry after they got caught. Eventually they won the
confidence back from consumers. Toyota was well aware of the complaints and
concerns and they still did not admit to it.
Obviously these unethical practices saved them millions but
they lost the most indispensable element of the business i.e. trust of the
customers. The losses in business can be compensated but not the trust. So,
Ethics is foremost in each and every business because sooner or later the
customers will get to know the unethical practices in any company and that will
be a huge loss to the company.

ReplyDeleteone of the most important aspects of any car company safety the concern for safety how both employees and consumer are kept safe how is you are handled should a safety concern arise Toyota made a huge and unethical failure in 2010 when they basically betrayed their promise as company by ignoring safety concern and deleting recall investigation just so they could save a little money open
Nice word buddy thanks for making us aware ..Since its creation, Toyota has the reputation of making reliable and beautiful cars. Despite that, Toyota acted unethically. The company disregarded the safety of its customers and employees by delaying the recall of some of its cars that it knew had some brakes and airbags issue.
